Student Council
The Student Council develops leadership and promotes school spirit. It also encourages involvement in the parish, school, and community. The school officers and class representatives organize activities and assemblies for the students. The Student Council program enables students to develop responsibility and growth in Christian attitudes.
The Student Council is elected by the students. Children in grades 3-8 are elected by their classmates to represent the class on the Student Council. Officers (President and Vice President) are also elected in school-wide elections.
Student Council is an extra-curricular activity that allows SCL students grades 3 through 8 become more involved with their school as officers or class representatives. Members of the student council help raise funds for the school (e.g., Walk-a-thon), help run school events (e.g., Halloween Carnival and Teacher Luncheon), help with community projects (e.g., can food drive), help with the concerns and interests of the students, and much more. Even though the general responsibilities of each officer and class representative are listed below, everyone on student council works together as a team on student council events.
Members of student council are elected by the student body. Officer elections are held at the end of the school year for the next year. Class elections for representatives are held at the beginning of each school year. Students going into grades 5 through 8 can run for officer positions. A student can only be the president or vice president if he/she has been an officer before and is in 8th grade. Students can be a class representative starting at grade 3. Each grade, 3rd through 8th, has a class representative.
