It's hard to believe but I am going into my 14th year as a teacher! I began my teaching career at St. Joseph's in Libertyville, then moved back to Glenview where I found SCL! Over this time period I have taught first, second, and third grade. I have pretty much taught all subjects, and have had as many as 29 students down to as little as 14.
I grew up in Glenview, attending OLPH, then going to Regina Dominican High School. I attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, but graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in education.

My educational philosophy is based on my own experiences as a child, teen, and even adult. I remember growing up and loving the structure that a school day gave you. It was simple, yet, not one day could be the same as any other! Every subject offered me a chance to explore something new each day, and gave me opportunities to meet other people that shared the same interests. I loved the organization that a school building and the people inside of it gave to me. I always appreciated those teachers that took the extra time to help me out, whether it was with math, reading, or just to simply talk to me like I was the most important person in the room. So, in retrospect, I take all those years and put them into making my students feel important each and every day. I want them to like, even LOVE school! I want them to go home with fun stories, or cool facts to share with their families. As a teacher at a Catholic school, I want to instill in my kids the ideas of fairness, friendship, charity, and respect. But above all, I want kids to wake up each day and be excited to get to school!
My hobbies are across the spectrum but I guess I can narrow them to reading books of all ages and genres, painting and drawing, listening to music and going to concerts, sports, playing and hanging out with my family, playing with our dog, watching reality TV, laughing (yes, this can be a hobby - I have perfected it!) doing silly impersonations, and generally being a social butterfly!
The best way to get in touch with me is through email (
jreuter@sclschool.com), or simply by a phone call, but of course, I love chatting with you in person as well!
