Laurie Konicek
After receiving her undergraduate degree from DePaul University, Mrs. Konicek then went on to receive her graduate degree in Administration and Supervision from Loyola University. When Mrs. Konicek joined St. Catherine Laboure School over 30 years ago, she taught second, fourth, fifth and sixth grades and has been the principal for the past sixteen years! Prior to SCL she started her career teaching deaf students.
"I believe in creating a learning environment where all children are valued - an environment that is respectful of all children and their individual needs and backgrounds. I love to be involved with the total development of all the students at St. Catherine Laboure. I believe in Catholic education and all it has to offer students, teachers and families. The best education in my opinion is where children are given the opportunity to grow in a faith-filled environment developing their minds, bodies, and spirits. I am enthusiastic and passionate about fostering meaningful relationships with the students, faculty, families and parish community. It has always been my desire to teach and administrate in a Catholic school where I have the opportunity to make a difference in the students' lives with my strong work ethic as a teacher and my equally strong commitment to Catholic values and traditions.
I consider myself fortunate to have the privilege of serving as the principal of St. Catherine Laboure School. I strongly believe that as I take a comprehensive view of our school I see:
-
wonderful students
-
highly qualified staff
-
excellent achievement scores
-
quality and scope of our educational programs
-
success with extracurricular activities
-
quality school facilities
-
strong parental involvement
Indeed admittedly with perhaps some degree of bias, I am of the opinion that St. Catherine Laboure School is among the best in the Archdiocese!"
Mrs. Konicek has a very strong interest in musical theatre and drama and has subscribed to the Northlight and Steppenwolf theatre for years. She also enjoys the "Broadway in Chicago" theatre as well. In her downtime, she enjoys reading and and relaxing in Door County, Wisconsin.
