SCL Art Achievement Standards (K-8)
Understand and apply media, techniques and processes.
Use knowledge of the elements of art and design: line, shape, form, space, color, emphasis, variety, unity, balance, pattern, rhythm, movement.
Communicate meaning by choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter.
Understand the visual arts in relation to history, culture and religion.
Reflect upon and assess the merits of their work and the work of others.
Strive to improve their ability to draw from observation
Experiment with crafts that may become a source of lifelong creativity and pleasure.
Learn safe and proper use and care of art materials and equipment.
Appreciate that every level of talent is a gift from God.
Make connections between the visual arts and other disciplines.
Foster critical thinking skills as students choose from a variety of solutions. They also learn the value of following directions.
Expectations for Art Classes
Know what you are supposed to be doing at all times
Work together with your classmates
Give your best effort, even if it isn't your favorite project
Be respectful to others in class and the work they are doing
Be creative!
Responsibilities
Listen attentively at the beginning of class for announcements, instructions and demonstrations
A pencil and eraser are required for class each day
Seating is at the discretion of the teacher
Quiet talking during class is permitted, just remember what you are here for
All school rules apply in art class - be on time, no food or gym, in uniform, proper language and behavior
Do the best you can in your work every day!
