New Families - Frequently Asked Questions
Uniforms
Preschool students
3Y and Pre-K students
do NOT wear uniforms. Anything comfortable will be fine, and probably anything you wouldn’t mind risking getting painted or dirty.
K-8 students
These students will wear uniforms - 2 days a week in gym uniform and 3 days a week in regular uniforms. You’ll want to get some sweats and sweatshirts for cold days. You may be able to find some used uniforms at Back to School night. For new uniforms, you’ll need to get them from the new company either in the Dennis Uniforms store in Mt. Prospect or ordering it directly on the web at
www.dennisuniform.com.
Girls: Girls can wear either a white blouse or the white knit style shirt (with logo). The white knit shirts must be ordered from Dennis Uniform. Girls typically wear either the plaid jumper or plaid skirt, but some wear the white shirt and blue pants.
Boys: You need to order red knit shirts through Dennis. Boys wear blue pants or shorts. Recommended: 3 short sleeved shirts and 3 long sleeved shirts to start; 1-2 pairs of shorts and 3 pairs of pants when it gets cold; 2 pairs of gym shorts, 2 pairs of blue sweat pants and 1 blue sweatshirt again for colder weather.
More detailed uniform information can be found in the
Logistics page.
Parking and Dropoff
Please see Arrival Plan Map.
Preschool
When you pull into the entrance off Thornwood, take a right toward the rectory, then drive through the Church parking lot towards the green and yellow recycling bins and turn left to go near the preschool building. You’ll park in the spaces near the preschool. Everyone is expected to park and drop the child off in the room. It is important to not "temporarily" park in front of the building as that area must be clear of cars as a safety measure. It is best to plan to drop your child off between 7:55 and 8:00 a.m. That way you don’t feel rushed, but your child doesn’t have too much time to “miss you” at the start.
The same procedure will be for pickup, except that the students will be waiting in front of the building with their teachers - you will need to park your car and pick them up from the area in front of the preschool building.
K-8 students
When you pull into the entrance off Thornwood, take a right toward the rectory, then drive through the Church lot and turn left down the second aisle. Basically the two lanes near the main school building work like a horseshoe that goes counter-clockwise. School begins at 8am, so you’ll want to be there a few minutes before.
The best door to use for the K-8 students is through the gym door entrance. Then if you go around to the left and keep going left through two doors, you’ll be in the main building. The kindergarten classrooms are in the second hall as you come in from the parking lot. And you can always ask for directions – people are friendly here and they’ll help you out.
Bus Service
Bus service is available for K-8 students who live in District 34, and more than 1 mile away from the school. You should have received the signup form (due August 1) in your packet.
In the beginning of the school year, the teacher walks the students to the buses and kids have sticker tags with their bus route number. They wear these stickers on their shirts for about the first week or two until they are used to the routine.
Hot Lunch
Hot lunch days are MWF. Kindergarteners eat hot lunch in the lunchroom. They are assigned tables at the start of the year. Hot lunch days are MWF for those sign up for it (you get an order form each month and only pay for the meals that you order; lunches are $3 each). The students get 20 minutes for lunch.
